The People’s University of Jesenice was successful in the Ministry of Education’s call for proposals and secured funding for the implementation of the project “Basic Competences – Path to Success 2023-2029,” which will provide numerous free programs. The project aims to increase the participation of adults in lifelong learning and improve the competences needed for employment, greater employability, mobility, and personal development to respond to technological, demographic, and climate changes in modern society. The goal of the project is to acquire and improve basic competences and general education of adults through the implementation of publicly recognized programs such as Slovenian as a second and foreign language, initial integration of immigrants, digital literacy for adults, programs for life success, conducting 40-hour informal programs in Slovenian for foreigners, language courses (English, German, Spanish) at levels from A1 to B2, programs to enhance digital competences (use of computer and digital technology for professional and everyday life needs such as Word, Excel, internet, email, e-government, e-health, use of smartphones and other digital devices, social networks, artificial intelligence), programs for personal development such as effective communication, health and well-being, relaxation and mindfulness, public speaking, financial literacy, active citizenship, green steps… Preparations for Slovenian language exams will be provided, as well as program development based on the needs of the local environment. The target group is adults, with special attention given to vulnerable groups: lower-educated individuals (secondary education – ISCED 3 or less); active individuals aged 55 or older (employed and unemployed), foreigners, and prisoners. The project duration is from October 13, 2023, to June 30, 2029. The implementers are the People’s University of Jesenice (applicant and lead consortium holder), Development Agency of Gorenjska, B&B Educational Center Kranj, Micro Team, PE Kranj. The activities of the project “Basic Competences – Path to Success 2023-2029” are co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, Ministry of Education, and the European Union from the European Social Fund Plus.
