HIKING IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF JESENICE

Hiking offers excellent potential for the tourism of the municipality of Jesenice, especially due to its sustainable content. The location of Jesenice between Karavanke in the north and Mežaklo, the outskirts of the Triglav National Park or The Julian Alps on the south side, represent an invaluable asset for setting up long-distance (e.g., circular Juliana Trail) or local mountain trails of various types of difficulty: from those on the highest parts of the Karavanke, on their mid-mountains, on Mežakla to the easiest footpaths in the valley.
As part of the project, a special working group has been operating since 2016, which includes mountaineering, sports, and other similar associations for hiking and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. The Development Agency for Upper Gorenjska acts as the coordinator of this group. Its primary purpose is to provide the possibilities for the development of hiking activities in Jesenice: maintenance of existing and establishment of new local and thematic trails in the area of the municipality of Jesenice. The Development Agency for Upper Gorenjska is also in the role of coordinator between the Municipality of Jesenice (County of Blejska Dobrava) and Tourist Association (TD) Gorje in activities related to the regulation of the area of influence of the Vintgar Gorge on the Jesenice side.
The project is fully financed by the Municipality of Jesenice.
In the last five years, the following more visible results were achieved in the project:
- the Jesenice Hiking Map was produced (1st edition: 2017, 2nd edition: 2018, 3rd edition: 2020, 4th edition: 2022).
- in cooperation with CŠOD Trilobit, the Natural History and Mining Learning Path was renovated;
- the thematic trail Walk through Mežakla was established (more in the project: Walk through Mežakla);
- a viewing platform was erected at the Špica viewpoint at the transmitter on Mežakla;
- in the area of Blejska Dobrava, a network of routing tables was established in the connection of the Vintgar-Blejska Dobrava gorge;
- information boards were placed on Blejska Dobrava (in the center of the village) and in the parking lot of the cemetery (connection to the Vintgar Gorge);
- a viewing platform was built under the Šum waterfall in the Vintgar gorge;
- peaks and viewpoints in the municipality of Jesenice are equipped with registration boxes, stamps or benches every year;
- the Diary of Hiking Trails “On the Autumn Hills” was produced;;
- in the last year, a program of free promotional trips “Around the autumn hills” was successfully established
